Foundations is a series of classes that will set you up for following Jesus here at Westside as you Love God, Learn the way of Jesus, and Live on the mission of Jesus. We’ll cover topics that we think are key to being a healthy disciple, and things that make us who we are at Westside. This is an opportunity to go deeper into our DNA, both as Jesus-followers, and as part of the Westside family.
Classes are after the noon gathering, in the classroom in building T. Unfortunately we are not able to provide childcare for classes. We will have some coffee and light snacks, but feel free to bring your lunch with you!
We will take a look at how God loves us – he created us and has a plan for us! We’ll look at how God has worked throughout history to redeem us back from brokenness, so that we can flourish as He intended. This culminates in Jesus and the cross, the most amazing act of love, where God displays his love, mercy and grace.
When: November 5th and 12th, 2:00-4:30pm
We want to answer the question, ‘what does it look like to love God?’ We’ll unpack a theology of work and worship, and consider how we love God by partnering with him in all of life. We’ll consider the importance of following God’s ways, and look at the spiritual disciplines that set us up for success in these things.
When: December 10th and 17th, 2:00-4:30pm
This class is a crash course in the Bible. We’ll look at what the Bible is, how we got it, why it is important, and how to get the most out of it. It can be a challenging book sometimes – so we want to equip you to meet these challenges with confidence.
When: February 4th and 11th, 2:00-4:30pm
Theology is all about how we think and talk about God. We want to unpack some aspects of theology that are at the core of following Jesus – like who God is, what He is like, and why Jesus came. We also want to take a look at some of the theological distinctives of Westside, so you can know about the things that shape us here.
When: March 11th and 18th, 2:00-4:30pm
This class will unpack the mission of God, using Chris Wright’s book The Mission of God’s People. We’ll look at our identity as disciples on mission, the aspects of God’s mission, and what mission looks like practically.
When: April 29th and May 6th, 2 – 4:30PM
Jesus & Culture
Jesus’ Kingdom is really different to the Western culture we encounter every day. We will look at some of the big tensions this creates, and unpack what the Bible has to say about leading a Jesus-style life in our culture today.
When: June 3rd and 10th, 2:00-4:30pm
